It is with great pleasure that I announce that our Heath Avery has now been promoted to Vice President, General Superintendent. This should not be a surprise to anyone as Heath has been unofficially acting in this capacity for some time now with great success.

I have had the pleasure to work alongside Heath for my entire career at Farmer Construction as Heath and I were both on Shoal Point Phase 1 some 25 years ago; Heath as an apprentice carpenter and I as a site clerk. Heath quickly rose through the ranks at Shoal Point and became a foreman by the end of phase 2 just after becoming a journeyman. From the beginning, I have always admired Heath’s trade skills, work ethic, and character. I am proud to have Heath on our TEAM and look forward to witnessing the great things he will accomplish in helping us drive this company to new levels.

Supporting Heath in his new role and collaborating with him to implement the improvements he has planned, as well as those he will introduce in the future, is essential for the continued success of Farmer Construction. Together, we can contribute to the growth and excellence of our company, of which we are all so proud to be a part of. McCallum Lands is progressing beautifully. This picture taken by our Superintendent, Richard, is looking west from behind the Shell gas station on McCallum. The building is divided by a firewall which reflects the two different stages of progress between the north and south of the first building on the project.

The roof package is almost complete for the whole building, and the envelope package is well underway on the south side of the building with windows, doors, and sliders installed and siding following close behind.

Once the pond in the forefront of the picture dries up for the summer season it will allow the stormwater Eco Block system outfall to be installed.

We had a great day hanging out at the SD61 Career Fair held at Archie Browning Sports Centre on April 25th. This was a fantastic opportunity for students from various districts, including SD61, SD62, SD63, SD64, and SD79, to explore different career paths. Approximately 1,900 students attended the event.

A big thank you to Chantal, Nitasha, and Jo-Anne for their invaluable contributions at the Farmer Construction booth. Their enthusiasm and positive feedback left a lasting impression on the students who visited. Engaging with them provided an opportunity to shed light on the diverse career opportunities available within the construction industry. Beyond traditional on-site roles, we emphasized the significance of positions like estimators, project coordinators/managers, and others.

It’s incredibly rewarding to participate in events like these, where we can educate and inspire the future workforce. We’re grateful for the chance to contribute to students’ understanding of career options and are committed to supporting their journey towards fulfilling professions.

Farmer Construction appoints new Vice President

VICTORIA, B.C. – Farmer Construction (Farmer) is pleased to announce that Saeed Vafaei has been promoted to Vice President of Preconstruction & Estimating. “When I first interviewed Saeed, I knew immediately he was going to play a significant role in Farmer’s future. What I didn’t know then, was how loyal and committed a friend and colleague he would become.  He always has the company’s best interest at heart and his dedication to his estimators is undeniable”, said Gerrit Vink, President, Farmer Construction.

After graduating in 2003, Saeed worked for a cost consulting firm where he developed his conceptual estimating skills before joining a General Contractor in 2005, in Montreal, QC. While studying in his M.Eng., Construction Engineering program in Montreal, at Ecole de technologie supérieure, Saeed wanted to broaden his base of potential opportunities and started dealing with risk management side of contracting. Since that time, he has worked with several General Contractor’s in Montreal, Calgary, and Vancouver and enjoys the general contracts side of the industry as he thinks there are a lot of problem-solving skills required. He holds a Professional Quantity Surveyors (PQS) designation, is Gold Seal Certified, and is a member of the globally recognized professional body – Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors.

In his current role as Vice President, Saeed is responsible for the leadership of Farmer’s Estimating, Pre-construction, and Project Management departments (RFP, Major Projects, Special Projects, Concrete Self-Perform, Project Management), and the professional development of all team members. Saeed provides direction on pre-construction efforts, the development and maintenance of sound estimating, preconstruction, and project management best practices, including risk identification, mitigation, and management programs. Together with his team, Saeed is hiring and training dedicated, accountable, passionate, and enthusiastic people who will recognize a project’s value and commit to serving the needs of the owner and recognizing their vision. Saeed’s commitment to excellence and diligence will ensure Farmer’s continued success.
