It’s official! Farmer Construction is pleased to announce our new Chief Executive Officer, Matthew Clayton.
The Farmer Team continues its solid work out at 1100 McCallum for Starlight Developments. This project is located in the heart of Langford, BC, just outside the City of Victoria. This master planned community is set to reinvigorate the rental community in British Columbia and is the largest project in the CRD of its kind. The first of six phases to be developed as part of this overarching 54-acre project.
Phase 1 will consist of four, six-storey, purpose-built energy efficient rental properties. Featuring 597 state-of-the-art suites and representing over 500,000 square feet of gross floor area, Phase 1 will also include just under 10,000 square feet of retail and commercial space.
President of Farmer Construction, Gerrit Vink, and our new CEO, Matthew Clayton, toured The Pearl project this morning. They spent some time with our hard-working staff on the ground who continue to push ahead with the completion of this amazing project in downtown Victoria. Lots of fantastic things happening for the company with some significant major projects in the pipeline taking us all the way into 2027.
A big shout out to Jenna Williams, Seth Calder and Ryan Garland on your amazing accomplishment! Our Team Farmer apprentices received their Youth Work in Trades Awards on Friday, April 28th. These students each worked over 900 hours in the student employment program and each received the $1,000 grants.
We are so proud of you all and are very fortunate to have you on Team Farmer! Keep up the great learning and hard work. You are an inspiration to many!
Every year, on April 28th, workers, families, employers, and others come together at Day of Mourning events held around the province to remember those who have lost their lives on the job, to remember families who have lost their loved ones, and to renew our commitment to creating safer workplaces.
At Farmer Construction, we take workplace safety very seriously. On April 28th at 10:30am, our sites will be pausing for a moment of silence to honour workers who have died, became injured or ill while working on their job. All cranes and mobile equipment will stand down during this time. Once 60 seconds has passed, mobile equipment/cranes will sound their horns before going back to work.
Wherever you are at 10:30am on April 28th, please take a moment to remember. Celebrations are being held throughout the province and locations can be found here – https://dayofmourning.bc.ca/.
On behalf of Farmer Construction, we thank you for your support.
Happy Friday!!
We are excited to report that work has begun on the McCallum Lands project. The first raft slab was placed on April 17th. Wall and column work has also started. Reinforcing work is ongoing for the next placement with several slabs scheduled for May. Great teamwork by everyone!

Wishing you a wonderful Easter weekend with your family and friends and may the Easter Bunny deliver many chocolate treats!
Please note our office and sites will be closed on Friday, April 7th and Monday, April 10th, in observance of the Easter long weekend. We will reopen on Tuesday, April 11th.
Happy International Women’s Day 2023
Today we celebrate International Women’s Day. This day is meant to commemorate and honour the wins and achievements of women while also raising awareness around gender equality.
At Farmer Construction, we encourage and support women to rise to their full potential without being judged or scrutinized. We recently celebrated the success of two of our women carpenters, Chantal and Nitasha, who participated and were very successful in the Provincial Carpentry Apprenticeship Competition placing in first and fourth place. (See website under ‘News‘ for details).
We look forward to celebrating the successes of all the Farmer women as well as the rest of Team Farmer in achieving their goals. By supporting and encouraging one another, we can raise one another up, work together as a team, achieve our goals and build the communities that we work and live in.
“Success is not final; failure is not fatal: It is the courage to continue that counts.”
~ Winston S. Churchill
