Gerrit Vink, B.Eng., GSC

Knowing how to work closely with teams and drawing on the strengths of individuals is what Gerrit is well known for with clients and Farmer. Born and raised Victoria, Gerrit is well versed on the island’s construction nuances.

He began his career with Farmer working on site at Shoal Point for four years followed by Dockside Green and numerous other well known Victoria landmarks. As part of Farmers’ succession plan, Gerrit was promoted to Manager of Operations in 2006. In 2016, Gerrit purchased Farmer and continues working on the business as its President.

As your first point of contact, you can expect Gerrit to take responsibility for how the job gets done, to listen and respond to any project issues, and to celebrate with the team at the completion of a job well done.

Saeed Vafaei, M.Eng., PQS, GSC, MRICS

Saeed likes learning and new challenges. After graduating in 2003 he worked for a cost consulting firm where he developed his conceptual estimating skills before joining a GC in 2005 in Montreal. Since then and while in his M.Eng., (Construction Engineering) program at ETS in Montreal, he wanted to widen his base of potential opportunities and started dealing with risk management side of contracting. Since that time, he has worked with several GCs in Montreal, Calgary and Vancouver and he enjoys the GCs side of the industry as he thinks there are a lot of problem solving skills required. Saeed holds PQS designation, is Gold Seal Certified (GSC), and is a member of the globally recognized professional body – Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).

In his current role, as Vice President, Preconstruction & Estimating, Saeed is responsible for the leadership of Farmer Estimating, Preconstruction and Project Management departments (RFP, Major Projects, Special Projects, Concrete Self-perform, Project Management). Responsible for professional development of all team members ensuring they reach their full potential. Provides direction on pre-construction efforts and development and maintenance of sound estimating, preconstruction and project management best practices including risk identification, mitigation, and management programs.

Him and his team hire and train dedicated, accountable, passionate and enthusiastic people to play a crucial role in the construction of a project by recognizing the project’s value and by committing the resources needed to serve the owner’s and project’s needs.

Heath Avery

Heath is an experienced construction professional with nearly three decades of industry experience. He has been working with Farmer Construction since 1997, starting as a Carpenter’s Apprentice and gradually progressing to his current role as Senior Superintendent, Major Projects.

As Senior Superintendent, Heath is responsible for ensuring the smooth execution of construction projects from start to finish. With a keen eye for detail and a deep understanding of construction processes, Heath effectively coordinates and supervises all on-site activities, ensuring adherence to project timelines, budgets, and quality standards.

Heath has developed a comprehensive knowledge of construction methodologies, safety regulations, and industry best practices. This expertise allows him to proactively identify and address potential challenges, mitigating risks and ensuring the successful completion of projects.

Heath is known for his exceptional leadership abilities, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment. He excels at managing diverse teams, effectively communicating project objectives, and motivating individuals to achieve their full potential. His strong interpersonal skills enable him to build strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and stakeholders, ensuring seamless project coordination and client satisfaction.

Committed to staying at the forefront of industry advancements, Heath actively seeks opportunities for professional development and continuous learning. He holds a Gold Seal Certification (GSC), Journeyman Carpenter certification, Red Seal Certification (RSE), Superintendent Career Training at the international Brotherhood of Carpenters, and has completed various training programs related to construction safety and leadership.
